Dr. Kawar is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Certified in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery. She earned her Degree in Dental Surgery from the University of Jordan and her Master’s Degree and Certificate in Periodontics from St. Louis University. She practiced periodontics at Veterans Administration Hospital and in private practice.
Dr. Kawar is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Periodontics, College of Dentistry, at University of Illinois at Chicago. She is the recipient of the American Academy of Periodontology “Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring Award in Periodontics” and the Jon Daniel Teaching Award. She is also the recipient of the Dean Brennan Graduate Research Award from St. Louis University in recognition of her research on periodontal disease and pregnancy outcome.
Dr. Kawar believes in the connection between oral health and systemic health. Her therapy goal is to improve patients’ oral health, function and esthetics while improving overall health. Dr. Kawar practices all aspects of periodontal and implant therapy, including non-surgical and surgical therapy to restore and stabilize lost bone and soft tissues through grafting and replacement of lost teeth with dental implants.
Patients compliment Dr. Kawar on her care and respect of their autonomy and sharing with them management decisions important to their own health through a holistic approach. She believes that mutual respect and trust are the cornerstone of the relationship between the dentist and the patient. Dr. Kawar is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology. She maintains her knowledge up to date by attending professional meetings, teaching dental students and conducting clinical research.
